Recently returning from the UK I was rushing in the pouring rain to catch a connecting train from London Bridge station to Gatwick.

Due to signal problems the train was delayed by about 30mins & I wandered the platform. Looking up there was The Shard towering above everything.

This is the UK’s latest commercial building & will be the tallest in western Europe. Architects are the Renzo Piano Building Workshop.

Recent travels took me through Houston Airport & these shots were taken with my iphone. Great for quick travel shots like this!

The first image shows the original shot taken using the HDR mode.

The shot was then modified in PS5 using various techniques & an ALCE plug in.

The under construction UBC Pharmaceutical Drug R&D building.

Interesting light on the south façade glass, especially with the dark sky behind.

A joint design venture with Saucier + Perotte Architect & Hughes Condon Marler Architects.

The sun does come through & here’s the proof!

Tower cranes caught late afternoon around Yukon & 7th.

Still no mountains though, but here it worked as there was less distraction & more focus on the subject(s).

Interesting what you see, when you’re not really looking! Driving back along Fraser Street after dropping my son off to go longboarding I flashed by this alley & had to do a u turn & double take. The fact that it was an overcast & rainy day helped with the colours I think. Worth revisiting at some time. Could be a location for a fashion, portrait, car shoot, etc. A 70′s look there somehow, sort of Kings Road, Chelsea.

I’ve recently been playing around with a couple of photo apps: camera+ & snapseed.

I found snapseed the more fun because of the larger number of options. The tilt/shift option has been applied to the  images below together with others, including frames & centre focus.

It’s worth checking out both these apps & the cost is nominal.

Once I’d achieved a “look” on the iphone I imported to iphoto. These images were then opened up in DxO Film pack 3, which enables you to apply an analog look to your digital files.

This is a much more expensive programme, but there are lots of options, including vignetting, which can be useful. You can try a free trial for 30 days, downloadable from the DxO site.

Some of the film types work great for interiors & give a very nice look.

Anyway, I’ve just fooled around with these images to apply different techniques to demonstrate the applications.

A couple of weeks ago I photographed a presentation centre constructed inside a tent.

You can see from the exterior it was quite a large structure.

Had to be because it accommodated a display suite, full size floor plan, reception, meeting & model rooms.

The neat thing about the floor plan displays was that they were projected onto the floor from a bank of projectors fixed to a track system suspended above the floor.

To get this interior shot the camera was afixed to a boom system (rented from Flashpoint    http://www.flashpointrentals.com  ) & tethered to a laptop.

System design by B3 Communications (my client).
